At the end of
2006, a group of concerned theatre professionals, parents, and local
business leaders began meeting to discuss the ramifications of the sudden
closing of New American Theater. After careful study, we concluded
that, while the area had opportunities to view professional productions,
there was very little opportunity to work hand in hand with practicing
theater professionals, and an avenue for bringing young professionals and
artists into the community was closed off. In March of 2007, the
group incorporated as The Riverfront Theatre Company, and dedicated itself
to bridging the gap between educational, community, and professional theater
in the Greater Rockford Area. In March, we set up our business
accounts and bought insurance for our enterprise. We quickly gained
momentum as we designed workshops to offer in select area schools during the
month of May 2007, and are currently planning a Summer Theater Camp Program
in summer 2007.
- We are
applying for federal Not-For-Profit 501(c)(3) status.
- We are
preparing a fund-raising performance
event for summer 2007.
- We are
in the process of picking an inaugural season of three shows to offer for
2007-2008.
- We are
currently expanding our Board of Directors to complement the skill sets of
our current members, and invite interested
parties to contact us.
- We are
committed to the future of theatrical arts in our area by insuring the
long-range fiscal security of the company. 10% of all non-allocated
donations go directly to our endowment.
- We are
exploring venues throughout the Greater Rockford Area for use as a
temporary or permanent home, though we support Rockford’s cultural
corridor, and hope to find a home within it.
- We are
dedicated to supporting and nurturing the growth of all arts in this
region and are actively seeking out opportunities to work collectively
with other organizations.
